The day after Christmas part of my family went hiking. We hiked up Angels Landing. This hike was intense and the terrain was more difficult then it appears. Where you see the chains and the stakes in the ground that was what we held on to so we didn't fall off the cliff. It was very steep and the footing was slick. We all were lucky and made it back in one piece! :)

I Can Hear Your Music
I can hear your music
I can hear your song
As wild and free, as the child in me
So clear, so strong
I can hear your music
I can hear your song
Sweeter than the sound of the rolling river
So clear, so strong
-Miten and Premal
I can hear your song
As wild and free, as the child in me
So clear, so strong
I can hear your music
I can hear your song
Sweeter than the sound of the rolling river
So clear, so strong

Silence
Outside the trees are bare
Their leaves’ have fallen
What must they think?
With silence forced upon them
Coldness brought this silence
A silence that soon will fade
When warmness comes
To wrap them in a firm embrace
An embrace warm and true
What I wouldn’t give-
To feel warmness too
I hate this silence!
Their leaves’ have fallen
What must they think?
With silence forced upon them
Coldness brought this silence
A silence that soon will fade
When warmness comes
To wrap them in a firm embrace
An embrace warm and true
What I wouldn’t give-
To feel warmness too
I hate this silence!

Touch a Tree Every Day
I have been given a class assignment to touch a tree every day and then to write about this experience. The honest truth-I thought to myself....what a silly assignment. Something I have grown to appreciate from this experience is the feel of the different textures of bark under my hand. I have always enjoyed sitting under the trees and listening to their leaves speak to one another, but I can say that I have now grown to appreciate the feel of tree trunks under my hand as well. I have been reminded of the beauty, elegance, and the complexity of the Lord's creations and of the blessings that surround me daily. For these daily reminders and blessings I am very grateful!

Kilkelly with Lyrics
This song is kind of a sad one, but I also think it is a very pretty song as well.

Horsey Horsey
Horsey Horsey on your way,
We've been together for many a day.
So let your tail go swish,
And your wheels go round.
Giddy-up we're homeward bound!
We've been together for many a day.
So let your tail go swish,
And your wheels go round.
Giddy-up we're homeward bound!

Folk Music
“Big Rock Candy Mountain” and “Waltzing with Bears” are just two songs that come to my mind when I think of folk music. Folk music can sometimes be hard to define, because like many different music genres, it has a history in which it developed and changed over time. For me, I am able to identify a couple of the different folk movements. When I think of traditional folk music, musicians like Greg Brown, Priscilla Herdman, Anne Hills, Woody Guthrie, and the Carter Family come to mind. Names like Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger come to mind when I think of the folk revival that took place in the 1960’s.
Like all music genres, folk music has a heritage and a culture. It takes more than just an acoustic guitar to classify a piece of music as folk. A lot of folk music originated from a way of life. Folk music was the basis that helped to inspire other musical movements including rock and roll and jazz.
Folk music is very interesting to me, and while I know a little about different folk musicians there are a lot that I do not know. I am looking forward to learning more about folk music this semester. I hope to gain an even broader understanding of how folk music came to be and the role it has played in peoples lives over the years.

One Bright Shining Hope
"We know not what lies ahead of us. We know not what the coming days will bring. We live in a world of uncertainty. For some, there will be great accomplishment. For others, disappointment. For some, much of rejoicing and gladness, good health and gracious living. For others, perhaps sickness and a measure of sorrow. We do not know. But one thing we do know. Like the polar star in the heavens, regardless of what the future holds, there stands the Redeemer of the world, the son of God, certain and sure as the anchor of our immortal lives. He is the rock of our salvation, our strength, our comfort, the very focus of our faith." -President Gordon B. Hinckley

The Wolf
A Wise Chief once said, "I have two wolves over my shoulder, a black wolf and a white wolf." When asked which one has more power he said, "the one I choose to feed." Choose to feed the white wolf, to do good and to be happy! I really enjoyed this thought from Stake Confrence today and I was spiritually nurished and fed there. I hope we all will choose to feed our white wolf!

The Persistence of Memory

"I didn't go to the moon, I went much further-for time is the longest distance between two places. Not long after that I was fired for writing a poem on the lid of a shoe-box. I left Saint Louis. I decended the steps of this fire escape for a last time and followed, from then on, in my father's footsteps, attempting to find in motion what was lost in space. I traveled around a great deal. The cities swept about me like dead leaves, leaves that were brightly colored but torn away from the branches. I would have stopped but I was pursued by something. It always came upon me unawares, taking me altogether by suprise. Perhaps it was a familiar bit of music. Perhaps it was only a piece of transparent glass. Perhaps I am walking along some street at night, in some strange city, before I have found companions. I pass the lighted window of a shop where perfume is sold. The window is filled with pieces of colored glass, tiny transparent bottles in delicate colors, like bits of shattered rainbow. Then all at once my sister touches my shoulder. I turn around and look into her eyes. Oh, Laura, Laura, I tried to leave you behind me, but I am more faithful than I intended to be! I reach for a cigarette, I cross the street, I run into the movies or a bar, I buy a drink, I speak to the nearest stranger-anything that can blow your candles out!"

D&C 78:17-18
"Verily, Verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you;
And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours, and the riches of eternity are yours."
And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours, and the riches of eternity are yours."
D&C 82:8-9
"And again I say unto you, I give unto you a new commandment, that you may understand my will concerning you;
Or, in other words, I give unto you directions how you may act before me, that it may turn to you for your salvation."
Or, in other words, I give unto you directions how you may act before me, that it may turn to you for your salvation."
